Kirby Star Allies The Original Art Book

The Kirby series just got its first official art book from Nintendo and HAL Laboratory with one for Kirby Star Allies. The 200-page art book released today in Japan and is available for 2,970 yen (~$27.40).

Next month marks the 29th anniversary of the Kirby series, almost three decades since the release of Kirby’s Dream Land for the Game Boy. While Kadokawa published a Kirby: Art & Style Collection book that featured a compilation of artwork for the series’s 25th anniversary (which was made available in the West by Viz Media), the Kirby Star Allies The Original Art Book is the first art book put together by Nintendo and HAL Laboratory.

Kirby Star Allies The Original Art Book

The art book features over 500 pieces of illustrations, rough drafts, sketches, and more. It covers everything from the very start to the latest content released through free updates, and it includes rough drafts and sketches for the characters and backgrounds to make up over 500 pieces of art. Additionally, it contains comments and interviews from HAL Laboratory creators to go with all of the drawings.

The Kirby Star Allies The Original Art Book is split into three main chapters:

  • Chapter 1: Artwork
    • Main visuals
    • Original illustrations
  • Chapter 2: The Making
    • Copy abilities
    • Friend Abilities
    • Dream Friends
    • Worlds, etc.
  • Chapter 3: Extra
    • Early-development image art
    • UI design
    • Development staff interview, etc.
