Earlier today, Pokémon released a one minute trailer promoting a new gameplay mechanic ready to debut in Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon on November 17th, 2017.

The mechanic is a brand new exclusive Z-move for the Pokémon Kommo-o, the Alola Region’s pseudo-legendary (for those who do not know what a pseudo legendary is, it is a Pokémon who’s base stats equal 600 total)

The Z-move, Clangorous Soulblaze, has a long attack animation that took up a bulk of the trailer. However, those who stuck around until the end witnessed the true power of this potentially game-breaking move.

After using Clangorous SoulblazeKommo-o receives a +1 stat boost in every main category (Att, Def, Sp.Att, Sp.Def, Speed), meaning the move is essentially Ancient Power or Ominous Wind but presumably 3× more attack power and guaranteed benefits. To the common Pokémon fan, this may seem like just an ordinary buff, but those close to the meta game immediately saw it’s devastating potential.

Essentially, Kommo-o becomes an amazing revenge-sweeper upon switch in from a previous Pokémon’s KO. Any weakened Pokémon unfortunate enough to have a base speed lower than 85 will probably get smacked by a Clangorous Soulblaze, and this will leave the opponent facing a Kommo-o in formation to sweep if they do not have a fairy type or decent counter.

The only drawback to consider at this point is the fact that Kommo-o does not carry any priority moves. If the Dragon-Fighting type had access to the move Vacuum Wave, it would probably be too powerful for any current competitive tier, being banned much like Mega-Rayquaza in Ubers back in the day. However, this set will still wreck havoc, as Kommo-o will definitely become an OU (Overused) Pokémon in no time. Just expect this set running around once Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon drop.

Kommo-o @ Kommo-onium Z (or whatever it will be called)
Ability: Soundproof
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
– Clanging Scales/Clangorous Soulblaze
– Focus Blast
– Flamethrower
– Flash Cannon

Not much was said about the new Z-move of Kommo-o’s, but we can immediately tell that it will draw the attention of many wanting to utilize this Alola dragon. Clangorous Soulblaze was what it needed to reach the likes of Dragonite or Salamence, but hopefully it didn’t pushed it far enough over the edge to get banned from competitive play.
