Publisher Konami and developer Bloober Team have announced that they have entered a “strategic cooperation agreement,” which will include “jointly developing selected contents and exchanging know-how.” It’s incredibly vague phrasing that could mean anything, but it likely has to do at least in part with Silent Hill. This would agree with previous rumors, as well as current reporting from VGC that outright states Bloober Team is working on a project related to Silent Hill for Konami.
Konami, Bloober Team, and probably Silent Hill
VGC further reports that Konami has outsourced a separate Silent Hill project to a “prominent” Japanese developer and that there may even be other projects in the works at other developers. So in total, it sounds that fans of the horror series have a lot to look forward to across the next few years (including the new movie). That doesn’t even factor in that Konami may possibly be expressing interest in teaming up with more indie developers to revive more IP.
Bloober Team is an obvious partner for Konami in creating a horror game, as Bloober’s catalogue contains oodles of them, such as the Layers of Fear franchise, Observer, and Blair Witch, all of which are available on Nintendo Switch. Bloober most recently released The Medium for Xbox Series X and PC, with a PlayStation 5 version coming. Of course, the developer’s games typically receive “good, not great” critical receptions, but perhaps with guidance from Konami, Bloober Team can deliver a truly memorable Silent Hill game. But to reiterate, no such game has been officially announced. All we know for sure right now is that Konami and Bloober Team have partnered up for something.
Piotr Babieno, Bloober Team president, provided the following statement:
It is a historic day for me and the culmination of several years of our work. The fact that such a renowned company as KONAMI has decided to strategically cooperate with the Bloober Team means that we also joined the world leaders in gaming and became an equal partner for the leading players in this market.
Meanwhile, Representative Director, President of Konami Hideki Hayakawa provided the following:
We have been providing unique entertainment content and ways to enjoy it through the use of information technology. In the digital entertainment industry, significant changes in the business environment are expected in the future. We look forward to combining Bloober Team’s and our respective characteristics and strengths to create high-quality contents.
