I think we can all agree that we could use some good news whenever we can get it. Tech reporter and YouTube star Lamarr Wilson certainly thought so and set out to do something special for someone extra special. Wilson’s grandmother was an avid fan of the Nintendo 64 and its classics like Super Mario 64 and Donkey Kong 64 back in the day. Sadly, her original console kicked the bucket in a flood, as is the fate of so many old consoles. Luckily, this gaming granny has an amazing grandson and now also another Nintendo 64 with her old favorites.
Over 20 years ago, my grandma was the OG Donkey Kong 64 & Super Mario 64 completionist! Then she lost the N64 to a flood. 🙁 She’s been bored during quarantine so we found her another Nintendo 64 & same games & at 84 years old she’s living her full gaming life again! Look at her! pic.twitter.com/q7d2IpI3HV

Wilson wanted to make sure his grandmother wasn’t bored during the quarantine, so he hooked her up, and how. Just look at that face. That’s the face of a true gamer fully in her element. Aside from annihilating Super Mario 64 and Donkey Kong 64, she’s been into the hobby for over 30 years. Lamarr Wilson talks about how his grandma played Pac-Mania on the original Nintendo with a joystick, as well as how much she loved Super Mario World on the Super Nintendo and subsequent Mario games on the GameCube and Wii.
We love stories like this and will report on them when we see them. Every time Nintendo sends a 95-year-old woman a Game Boy, or another gaming granny spends hundreds of hours in Hyrule, or an enthusiastic mom learns how to play the Pokémon card game to hang out with her daughter and then completely destroys the competition, it reminds us that our favorite hobby has so many wonderful people that we share something in common with.
Also, if you don’t know him already, check out Lamarr Wilson’s YouTube channel. I learned about his videos through this story and I think I feel a binge coming on. Can’t get enough of that theme song.
