Sonic Mania Lego Sonic Mania Green Hill Zone set Viv Grannell official development greenlit Sega

After being under review for quite some time, Lego has confirmed that a Sonic Mania Lego set is on the way. This project has come to life through the Lego Ideas program, where fans can submit concepts to Lego in an attempt to turn them into an actual set. In order for a set to be approved, a project must first achieve 10,000 votes to enter the review phase.

Sonic Mania LEGO

This Sonic Mania Lego set was pitched to Lego by Viv Grannell, a 24-year-old Sonic fan from the U.K. The project quickly amassed enough voters to send it into the review phase. The Lego design is based upon Sonic Mania‘s Green Hill Zone. We see characters such as Eggman, the Heavy Gunners, and of course Sonic himself. There’s even Sonic’s little animal friends, in addition to power-ups for Sonic to collect. According to the pitch, the set is estimated to have roughly 700 pieces in addition to a sticker sheet.

However, this will not be what the final set looks like. This “concept design” will be Lego’s inspiration while developing its final appearance; it will be a while before it resurfaces. A press release offers further details:

The Sonic Mania Green Hill Zone LEGO Ideas® design will now go into the product development phase, in partnership with SEGA® and once finalised will be available worldwide. Talking about the collaboration, Jason Rice, Director of Brand Licensing, SEGA® Europe Ltd, said; “At SEGA, we’ve always encouraged fans to take part in the legacy of the Sonic franchise through their own creations and it’s wonderful to see the tradition continued through the LEGO Ideas® program. We’re thrilled to partner with Viv and the LEGO Group, and hope to inspire fans to continue creating their own unique Sonic the Hedgehog™ experiences for generations to come.”

If the Sonic Mania Lego set launches this year, it will be coinciding with Sonic’s 30th anniversary. What are your thoughts on this Lego set?
