Li’l Cactus is a strange fellow whom you’ll find on your journey to save the world in Trials of Mana. He is shy but happens to be thinking about many things. He’s appeared in other Mana games and has chosen to show up in this one too. This guide will help you find him all 50 times in your first playthrough and learn what rewards await for doing so.
Before you get started here, why not check out our other guide on making decisions in Trials of Mana? It has information on everything from which characters to pick to what to do with all those Item Seeds.
Once you leave the Free City of Maia for the Golden Road, a researcher will ask if you’ve seen “a weird cactus thing.” He tells you “people say that good things happen when you talk to the cactus, but he’s shy. He doesn’t stay in one place for long.” As it so happens, our little buddy is so fast that he gets to where we’re going before we can get there. It’s cool though because he’ll wait for us.
Every five times you find Li’l Cactus, you’ll receive a li’l gift from him. The three bonuses that we’re most interested in are the rewards for 35, 45, and 50 sightings.
At 35, you’ll be able to see unopened chests on the map, as well as get a count for how many times our cactal companion appears in an area. You can even check the numbers from the world map, though you won’t be able to see individual areas.
At 45, your chances for getting good items from seeds improve. You don’t need this to get the super secret powerful gear, but it sure helps.
Finally, at 50, you’ll get an accessory and a Chain Ability, and they’re incredible: The Li’l Cactus Ring is an accessory that refills the wearer’s CS Gauge at a rate of more than 1% per second so long as they’re walking. The Li’l Cactus Chain Ability adds 200% to everyone’s CS Gauge at the start of every battle. I told you they were incredible.
All 50 Li’l Cactus sightings in Trials of Mana
This character gets around, and you can find him all over the world. He doesn’t like places that you can’t get back into, and as I mentioned earlier, you can find him on your first playthrough of the game. However, sometimes he shows up after certain story events happen, so if you don’t find him where and when this guide says he appears, just check back again later.
Spoiler Warning: This guide is meant to help you find Li’l Cactus as you go along. It contains full maps for every area, and while I’ve done my best to hide anything that may unnecessarily ruin the game for you, I can’t promise a pristine walkthrough. Tread lightly.
[Note: As of the time of this writing, we’ve only gotten through the adventure starring Duran or Angela. We’re working on the other two paths and hope to get their end dungeon locations added to this guide as soon as possible.]
