live-action Mega Man movie still happening Capcom

If you read that headline and thought, “Wait, Mega Man is getting a movie?” then don’t feel too bad. I’m a hardcore Mega Man fan and even I forgot that was happening, since it’s been floating around nebulously in one form or another for years. Nonetheless, as Rockman Corner notes, Capcom’s financial results posted today confirm that a live-action Mega Man movie is still happening, as well as the Monster Hunter movie:

… to generate synergy with its popular games via greater global brand awareness and value, the Company has been producing world-leading content, with brands such as Street Fighter and Resident Evil being made into Hollywood movies, now followed by Monster Hunter and Mega Man, which are also scheduled for live-action film adaptation.

It was reported last year that Chernin Entertainment, which did the new Planet of the Apes series, is producing the new live-action film with Masi Oka (Hiro from Heroes). Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman of Paranormal Activity 3 and 4 are attached to write and direct.

To date, Mega Man has mostly appeared in different animated TV series of varying quality, most recently with Mega Man: Fully Charged on Cartoon Network in the United States. However, the Blue Bomber has appeared in live-action fan films before. Most notably, there is a full 93-minute film from 2012 simply titled MegaMan. It, uh, is lacking in a Hollywood budget, but it’s got heart.

Are you intrigued to watch a live-action Mega Man movie from Capcom? I am, but as usual, I’m really just waiting for a Mega Man X9.
