Of all the Pokémon I would expect to be hidden in New Pokémon Snap, Manaphy isn’t one I would’ve thought to be on that list. Thankfully, the process of locating it isn’t hard to pull off, just rather hidden. It’s also a little bit of a time sink if you miss it, but luckily, it’s only about halfway through the course, so it’s not as bad as Lugia is. If you need help finding Manaphy and getting its 4-star photo, jump deeper into this New Pokémon Snap guide for instructions!
Head into Reef (Evening) Level 2. Right at the beginning of the course, you should notice some Inkay swimming alongside you. Ignore them temporarily, and look for the first Crystabloom on the right-hand side of the track. Hit it with an Illumina Orb, and you should see the Inkay jump out of the water. Optionally, take a photo here for a nice Inkay picture. Then proceed through the level until you find the second Crystabloom, this time on the left-hand side as you travel around the giant whirlpool. Light it up with an Illumina Orb as well, and proceed further into the level.
Just past the whirlpool, you should see two Wailord hanging out. Assuming you’ve done everything right so far, the right-most Wailord should start descending underwater. You should then proceed in that direction, and near where the Wailord submerged, you’ll be able to see some Inkay and a Manaphy playing together. As you get near this trio, play the melody a few times, and hopefully, Manaphy will jump out of the water. If it does so, snap a picture of it for the 4-star Manaphy photo.
If you miss Manaphy here, you can find it again at the end of the level. As you approach the large land formation dead in front of you, scan and take the alternative path to the right. As you ascend over the land, you’ll see a group of Lapras just swimming about. Hit the nearest two with Illumina Orbs, and they should swim near each other. Once they’re in place, play the melody again, and you should notice the duo dancing. Get your camera ready and aimed at the space between them, as Manaphy will jump out of the water one more time, then do a little swimming before you reach the end of the level.
There are nine other Legendary and Mythical Pokémon to find in New Pokémon Snap, so if you’re having trouble with those, be sure to check out our other guides!
