Mario Kart Tour launched last September on mobile devices and got off to a pretty solid start in its first month on the market. Since then, numerous updates have brought additional tracks, characters, and modes to the game, but one feature has been missing. Up to this point, the game has only been playable in portrait mode, in what can only be described as a typical Nintendo decision. However, an update releases tomorrow, July 21, on iOS and Android devices that finally adds the option to play in landscape mode.
We’ve all become accustomed to widescreen for games in recent years, including on Nintendo Switch. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe looks gorgeous in motion on Switch’s handheld screen. Now, Mario Kart Tour has the chance to look great too with widescreen support, especially on high-end mobile phones.
This is a welcome change to one of Nintendo’s more lacking mobile efforts. At the time, we noted its monetization methods and lack of multiplayer support as negatives, one of which has been addressed since. Adding multiplayer modes took the team almost six months to accomplish, so we’re not surprised it’s taken this long for landscape mode to appear.
Will you be going on a new tour now that Mario Kart Tour landscape support is a reality?
