We’re closing in on 2021, and it looks like Mario Kart Tour ain’t slowing down just yet. As the Winter Tour and the Rosalina Tour closed out 2020, the Mario Kart Tour is celebrating the new year in style with a fresh tour event, the New Year’s 2021 Tour. This one doesn’t bring a brand new track, as it revolves around a new Rainbow Road variant, but a brand new character, Lakitu, and more are inbound.
Lakitu is looking quite dapper in the New Year’s 2021 Tour, adorned with some shiny gloves and a blue top hat. Of course, our floating friend has typically acted as a racing guide, but this is his debut as an actual driver. If his racing timing is as on-point as his regular lap updates, Lakitu could be the racer to beat.
Sticking with the suave theme, two older character variants also return for the new year. The “party” versions of Pauline and Toad have returned, and we’re all jealous of Toad’s jacket. The three characters will be attainable for the two-week duration of the Mario Kart Tour New Year’s 2021 Tour.
2021 is set to be an interesting year for Mario Kart‘s mobile debut. Updates have been delivered thick and fast since the game’s 2019 release, and we’re interested to see if this continues for the year ahead.
