Nintendo is finally celebrating the 35th anniversary of Super Mario Bros. and boy did they dig up some of the best stuff from the big guy’s past. The Super Mario All-Stars collection is a great addition to the SNES Online service and Super Mario 3D All-Stars collects three games that are sure to thrill fans looking to relive those adventures on the Switch. That’s not to mention new stuff hearkening back to the old days, like Super Mario Bros. 35 and Game & Watch: Super Mario Bros. The Big N is making a show of reveling in its biggest star’s history, so we’d like to know, what are some of your favorite Mario memories?
I could go on about getting a Nintendo Entertainment System at the age of three or playing Super Mario Land 2 on long car trips, but I think my favorite is reading the Mario Mania strategy guide/retrospective. I remember flipping through the pages, learning about the history of the series, and enjoying the concept art, information about the “real” SMB2, and an interview with Shigeru Miyamoto. It was the first time I can remember feeling a sense of history behind something. That magazine filled me with the desire to know more about where my favorite things came from, and how they grew and changed over time. Also, when I got Super Mario World that Christmas I knew every inch of that game. So that was nice.
