Mario Tennis

Our Super Mario 3D All-Stars review, written by yours truly, went live this morning. Despite a few nitpicky drawbacks, it’s ultimately an excellent collection of three of Nintendo’s most iconic titles. It’s also just the sort of thing that gets gamers thinking about other retro Nintendo classics. Plenty of series are well-suited for their own All-Star compilations – The Legend of Zelda, Metroid, and plenty more series have excellent past catalogs that would fit nicely on Switch. Today, I’m thinking of another family of Nintendo games that might be worthy of the All-Stars name – Mario sports titles. If you could pick three Mario sports titles for a Mario Sports All-Stars, which would you go for?

I’d probably go for the Nintendo 64 version of Mario Tennis, Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour, and Mario Strikers Charged. I like this trio because, while they’re all great games, they also showcase a good range of sports and some important moments in the series’ history. Mario Tennis, for example, is one of the earliest Mario sports games and also happens to be the most critically acclaimed. Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour spotlights the incredibly well-made Mario Golf series, and Mario Strikers Charged represents chaotic, electrifying soccer fun that everyone can get behind.

What Mario sports titles would you like to see in a hypothetical Mario Sports All-Stars? Think carefully, and then let us know your picks in the comments below.
