Mega Man movie Netflix live-action

Capcom has had a live-action Mega Man movie in development for at least three years with Chernin Entertainment, and a development in April 2020 suggested that the film may ultimately land at Netflix. Now, the directors of the movie seem to have confirmed that is indeed the case. New York City-based production company Supermarché, which is helmed by Mega Man co-directors Henry Joost and Ariel “Rel” Schulman, outright states in its “Bio” page that the Mega Man movie is being developed for Netflix. (Thanks, Rockman Corner.)

The relevant section states the following: “Henry, Rel, and their in-house producer Orlee-Rose Strauss maintain an active development slate. Features in the works include: an adaptation of Capcom’s MEGA MAN for Chernin Entertainment and Netflix, which they wrote and are directing…” That’s pretty unambiguous.

Although, the fact that the directors claim a writing credit on the movie seems to be new. The primary writer attached to the movie is Mattson Tomlin, who previously collaborated with Joost and Schulman for the Netflix movie Project Power. Tomlin also wrote for the upcoming The Batman, but his contributions to that film are apparently not being credited. In any case, Tomlin has stated that he wants to write a “primal and emotional” story for Mega Man that people will connect with. Meanwhile, Masi Oka (Hiro from Heroes) was attached to the Mega Man movie as a producer back in 2018, but it’s not entirely clear if that’s still the case.

The movie has not begun filming, so you probably shouldn’t expect to see Mega Man on Netflix any sooner than 2023 at this point.

(And for those wondering, the featured image of this article is not from Netflix. It’s from canceled first-person shooter Maverick Hunter.)
