Mega Man movie writer Mattson Tomlin The Batman screenplay Capcom movie

The Mega Man movie has reportedly found its writer: Mattson Tomlin. Despite being a relative unknown right now, Tomlin wrote Little Fish, which will release this year, and he is credited for co-writing next year’s The Batman, which is being directed by Matt Reeves and stars Robert Pattinson. Does this constitute a power-up for the live-action Capcom film with Chernin Entertainment? It remains to be seen.

For those in need of a refresher, a Mega Man movie has been in the works for quite a while depending on whom you ask and which reports you believe, and it was reaffirmed back in October 2019 that it still exists. As of October 2018 (note the year difference), Heroes‘ Masi Oka was attached to the project, but it seems there has been no update on that front in quite some time. A strong lack of concrete details about the Mega Man movie is a bit frustrating, but at least we know the wheels are in motion.

Capcom also has a Monster Hunter film releasing Sept. 4, 2020, directed and written by Paul W. S. Anderson and starring Milla Jovovich. We have to assume Capcom really likes that pair, based off the four hundred Resident Evil films they’ve made together.

Anyway, yeah, Mattson Tomlin! Are you hopeful that this fresh blood can bring excitement to the Mega Man movie?

[Edit: I see some people wondering where the article image originates. It originates from an aborted Mega Man X FPS.]
