Mega Man Zero/ZX Legacy Collection producer Kazuhiro Tsuchiya Capcom fan appreciation grateful

Capcom’s Mega Man series producer Kazuhiro Tsuchiya talked to sister site Siliconera about the development of Mega Man Zero/ZX Legacy Collection, which releases Feb. 25. Various new details can be garnered from it, such as that this collection is being built by the same team that made X Legacy Collection, and development began shortly after X work finished. And as suspected, the new “time attack”-esque Z Chaser mode was created to cater to the speedrunning community.

Additionally, Tsuchiya explains the decision to include a lot of extraneous content in Mega Man Zero/ZX Legacy Collection, including Mega Man Zero 3 Bonus Cards, e-Reader modification contents, and Mega Man Zero 3 and 4 Plus Mode:

We decided to include these features so that we could offer a single definitive collection that includes all games and special modes from the original Mega Man Zero and ZX series releases. Software required for Mega Man Zero 3 Bonus Cards features wasn’t available globally, and there are several fans who were unable to enjoy these contents when the games were first released.

Additionally, Mega Man Zero 3 and 4 Plus Mode features also required specific software to play them. That’s why, during our initial planning stages, we decided it was imperative to include these contents for all of those fans who haven’t yet had the opportunity to experience these modes and features.

And for art lovers, Mega Man Zero/ZX Legacy Collection will apparently contain literally every piece of art Capcom still has on hand for the games, including content that was not even published in the Zero: Official Complete Works art book from 2008. That’s a treat for people like me, who own all the Complete Works.

One more worthwhile detail of the Siliconera interview is that Tsuchiya says the development team “is deeply grateful for the warm words of support we received in response to the (delay) announcement.” Capcom USA had actually been the one to suggest making a video about the delay, and Tsuchiya had been skeptical about the idea. But the community expressed support and understanding, and Capcom appreciates that.
