The success of the Switch has only done wonders for Nintendo. And that has shown in the sales generated by their popular console. Now Metacritic has given the Big N even more praise with their publisher rankings from this past year. Nintendo came in 4th among all major game publishers of 2018.
Although Nintendo dropped down from 2nd last year, this is still quite the accomplishment. Their average Metacritic score (76.4) was quite close compared to the other publishers who ranked higher (Capcom – 79.3, Sega – 78.5, EA – 77.5).
Metacritic also pointed out some interesting facts from this ranking. Nintendo tied with Sega for the most titles released last year. It had two games (Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Bayonetta 2) score 90 or more. And it launched two well-reviewed new IPs with Nintendo Labo and Octopath Traveler.
We’re looking forward to seeing how Nintendo fairs this year. There are quite a few titles they’re publishing which could make a big splash including Yoshi’s Crafted World, Luigi’s Mansion 3, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, the new Animal Crossing game, and the next Pokemon. There are also some murmurs on Metroid Prime Trilogy coming out for Switch that would surely please fans.
