Nintendo set quite an example with its celebration of Mario’s 35th anniversary this year. Even with COVID mucking some stuff up, we got Super Mario 3D All-Stars, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury on the way, and a few other celebratory tidbits here and there. Next year, The Legend of Zelda and Metroid will celebrate the same milestone. We’ve already talked about The Legend of Zelda, so today, I’ll ask about Metroid: how should Nintendo celebrate the 35th anniversary of Samus Aran’s conquests in 2021?

I don’t have a lot of experience with this series. It’s my biggest Nintendo blind spot. For that reason, my wants are simple: Metroid Prime Trilogy finally dropping on Switch, some updates on what Metroid Prime 4 looks like, and maybe a few more 2D titles on the Nintendo Switch Online service if Nintendo ever gets around to adding more platforms. I’d also love to see a new 2D title pop up.

What are your hopes for when Metroid turns 35 next year? Are you wanting some new announcements, or would you like some ports to help you catch up on the series’ catalog? Why not both, right? Do you think Nintendo will do the series justice? Let us know in the comments below.
