Mew 4-star photo guide for New Pokémon Snap

New Pokémon Snap‘s 4-star Mew photo of is easily my favorite of all the Legendary and Mythical Pokémon pictures, because it really highlights Mew’s playful and curious aspects. It also reminds me a lot of its original encounter in Pokémon Snap, which I certainly appreciate. Getting this opportunity is easily missable, however, so follow the steps in this New Pokémon Snap guide to make sure you get that 4-star Mew photo!

To find Mew, head to Jungle (Night) Level 2. Immediately at the beginning of the course, turn around and play the melody. You should then see a pink orb appear and fly down the track. Turn back around and hit it with a Fluffruit. Mew tends to move around a lot, so don’t fret too much if you miss it initially. There are a few periods where it’s more stationary! Mew will briefly appear after contact, and you’ll need to take a photo here to continue the encounter and eventually get the 4-star photo.

Assuming you got it, Mew will go back into the orb and will appear again a short distance further down the course, just after you hurdle the tree branch in your path. Repeat the above process and get another picture. Proceed again down the course taking either path at the split, find the pink orb one more time, and again repeat the process to get another picture of Mew.

If you haven’t taken pictures of Mew at these three locations, Mew won’t appear for the rest of the course, so either retry or quit and submit what you have. Assuming you have taken these three pictures, however, as you progress over the tree trunk by the ancient ruins, look at them (on your left, relative to the forward motion) and play the melody. Mew will appear, so grab yet another picture of it. Lastly, as you round the corner near the sleeping Liepard on the rocks, you’ll suddenly stop as Mew teleports in front of you, not understanding the concept of personal space. Grab your camera and take your shot during this window to grab the 4-star Mew photo.

There are nine other Legendary and Mythical Pokémon to find in New Pokémon Snap, so if you’re having trouble with those, be sure to check out our other guides!
