The infamous game industry analyst Michael Pachter has a reputation for making predictions that typically don’t turn out to be true, but he may have actually been right about something. It looks like he may have warned us about Nintendo Labo from all the way back in 2012!

This weird situation stems from an episode of GameTrailers’ talk show called Bonus Round which was hosted by well-known industry personality Geoff Keighley. Michael Pachter also regularly appeared on the show, and this is where the incidental Nintendo Labo prediction comes in. In episode 615, which was filmed around the summer of 2012, Geoff and Michael were joined by two other guys who are game developers and they were all trying to make predictions on how things would turn out for the beginning months of the Wii U. The system was still a few months out from launch at the time, so it was still unclear as to exactly what it’s future would be like from a sales perspective. With that being the case, Geoff jokingly brought up a statement that Pachter had said before that diehard Nintendo fans would buy anything the company puts out, including a cardboard box.

Wait, what does that sound like? It’s Nintendo Labo! He knew! He knew all along! We should have listened to him!

Okay, theatrics over. Pachter definitely wouldn’t have known any better than anyone else about the idea, and there’s a very high chance that not even the concept of Labo was on the drawing board all those years ago. Still, it’s quite odd (and rather ironic) that an infamous predictor managed to actually get something right just by making a joke. YouTuber ?VideoGameLover58 cut the exact segment from the episode:
