Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has the largest cast of fighters ever assembled in franchise history. Every past Smash character returned, and Nintendo even added a handful of new ones. They’ll be releasing even more as DLC throughout the year, padding the roster out further. Even so, Smash fans are insatiable. Modders have added tons of new characters to the game since launch, and one more was just revealed. Scooby-Doo‘s Shaggy is now playable with mods! You can see him in action below.
Shaggy comes to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
The model looks pretty great, but obviously this isn’t a fully fleshed out character yet. Shaggy is lacking in the new moves department. Currently, he’s just a re-skin of Captain Falcon. Hopefully, in time he’ll be upgraded with his own unique arsenal of attacks. In the meantime, he’s still fun to watch!
If you’re not in the loop on certain corners of the internet, you may wonder why Shaggy would be chosen. It’s all related to a meme that has, by this point, long since passed its heyday. It all started with a scene from the movie Scooby-Doo! Legend of the Phantosaur. The movie features a scene where Shaggy temporarily becomes a total badass and beats up an entire biker gang. He expertly dodges and counters every attack with almost no effort. When the show Dragon Ball Super gave Goku similar powers (called Ultra Instinct), the two collided and “Ultra Instinct Shaggy” was born.
Memes about Shaggy’s immense power became popular enough that fans began petitioning for Mortal Kombat 11 to include him. After all, Warner Bros. owns both properties. While Mortal Kombat lead Ed Boon liked the idea, it was eventually dismissed. But when developers say no, modders often say yes! Shaggy may not be available in Mortal Kombat, but that could certainly change with some effort from the community.
