It was just last week that Monster Hunter Rise surpassed 4 million units shipped, and Capcom announced that the game has already passed 5 million units worldwide.
The current bestselling handheld game from the series is Monster Hunter Portable 3rd, with 4.9 million units sold. However, since that’s 4.9 million in sales, Monster Hunter Rise won’t pass it until actually converting the 5 million units shipped into sales. In any case, we’ll probably see Rise appear on the first page of Capcom’s Platinum Titles list in the near future.
We learned that 1.3 million units out of the 5 million shipped come from physical copies sold in Japan for its opening week, according to Famitsu‘s trackers. That’s close to the 1.35 million copies that Monster Hunter: World sold for the PlayStation 4 in Japan’s opening week. Monster Hunter: World would go on to sell 16.8 million units worldwide across PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC versions, to make it not only the bestselling Monster Hunter game but the bestselling Capcom game of all time.
Monster Hunter Rise is available on Nintendo Switch. The Ver. 2.0 update will arrive later this month with new monsters, including Chameleos and Apex Rathalos. Capcom will also add more new monsters and a new ending in the Ver. 3.0 update after.
