my nintendo may rewards

May 2020 has arrived, and with it comes another round of new rewards on My Nintendo. As always, the catalog updates with new discounts for select Nintendo 3DS games, themes, and more in exchange for accrued Platinum and Gold Coins players earn, from clearing certain objectives and purchasing games off the eShop respectively.

More savings on the 3DS’ biggest hits

Under the Nintendo 3DS/Wii U software discounts page (despite not featuring Wii U rewards for a very long time now), gamers on a budget can take advantage of the following at 30% off:

  • Star Fox 64 3D (150 Platinum Coins)
  • Mario Kart 7 (200 Platinum Coins)
  • Mario & Luigi: Dream Team (150 Platinum Coins)
  • Kid Icarus: Uprising (80 Gold Coins)
  • Metroid: Samus Returns (90 Gold Coins)
  • Mario Sports Superstars (90 Gold Coins)

Of the bunch, I would highly recommend picking up either Kid Icarus: Uprising or Metroid: Samus Returns. The Masahiro Sakurai-directed Kid Icarus revival is an absolute must-have, and the 3DS remake of Metroid II: Return of Samus really does put the Game Boy original to shame.

As for new Nintendo 3DS themes, a couple of Mario-oriented ones are up for grabs. “Super Mario Odyssey: Around the World” will adorn your 3DS with some New Donk City flair and “Jump Up, Super Star” playing in the background for a smooth 20 Gold Coins. If you’re more retro-minded, “Jumping Mario” will give your 3DS a Super Mario Bros.-inspired look for 100 Platinum Coins.

Concerning what’s on the way out, you have until 2AM Eastern tomorrow to redeem coins for the following discounts and themes:

  • Tomodachi Life (200 Platinum Coins)
  • Fantasy Life (300 Platinum Coins)
  • Style Savvy: Styling Star (90 Gold Coins)
  • Sushi Striker: The Way of Sushido (90 Gold Coins, albeit for 20% off instead)
  • Spotlight: Princess Peach 3DS theme (100 Platinum Coins)
  • Mario: Wood-Burned Characters 3DS theme (20 Gold Coins)

Deck out your screens with new My Nintendo wallpapers

Finally, some new wallpaper sets are available for 50 Platinum Coins, commemorating both the pending release of Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition and the new Fire Emblem Heroes crossover in the mobile title Dragalia Lost. As part of the “Fire Emblem: Kindred Ties” event, players can now Chrom, Tiki, and Peony to their party. The event will remain live until May 11 at 10:59pm Pacific.

As for Xenoblade fans, two new calendars and a wallpaper set are up for grabs. Each of these can be nabbed for a good 50 Platinum Coins.

Oh, and Nintendo Switch owners can redeem 100 Platinum Coins for a free 7-day trial of Nintendo Switch Online. Alas, still too few enticing rewards for Switch owners…

Do you plan on taking advantage of some of these offers? What themes do your Nintendo 3DS currently rock, and which game from the above might you check out at a discount if you haven’t yet? Let us know in the comments!
