The Square Enix countdown website we reported on last week has delivered exactly what the fans wanted. Square Enix has announced NEO: The World Ends with You for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4, launching in summer 2021. It is a brand new entry in the franchise occurring in 3D environments with a new cast of characters, and the new protagonist’s name is Rindo. Other characters, of which we currently know nearly nothing, include Fret, Nagi, and Minamimoto.
The brief official description for the game is as follows: “NEO: The World Ends with You transports players to the streets of the Shibuya, where they will take part in the ‘Reapers’ Game,’ a life-or-death battle for survival. Players will take on the role of Rindo as they explore the heart of Tokyo to uncover the mysteries behind the sinister Game in which they have been forced to take part.” Story-wise, at least, the game sounds like par for the course.
Gameplay-wise, NEO: The World Ends with You will allow you to enjoy the “sights, sounds, and culture” of Shibuya that has been recreated in the series’s signature striking art style. You’ll also, of course, be battling monsters with allies, and pin mechanics seem to be making a return.
What do you think of NEO: The World Ends with You coming to Nintendo Switch? This is presumably that other Switch game Tetsuya Nomura teased to us exclusively not along ago.
