I’m sure you’ve heard by now that there’s been a Mario Direct, but if you haven’t seen it yet, let me spoil the first couple minutes for you. The first game announced to celebrate the Super Mario Bros. 35th anniversary was Game & Watch: Super Mario Bros, an actual physical device. You’ll get to play Super Mario Bros., The Lost Levels (the original SMB2 that Japan got), classic game Ball but featuring Mario, and even use it to tell time as a clock. Plus, there are “35 little touches to discover.”
Game & Watch: Super Mario Bros. has a full-color LCD and four-directional “plus” control pad for smooth gameplay. It even has a pause button! Now we’re playing with power.
As portable as the Nintendo Switch and Switch Lite are, they’re not the approximate size of three credit cards stacked on top of each other, which is certainly a win for this little guy. I’ve never personally been a fan of games this tiny, but I know a few people who will genuinely enjoy this and even more who will get it as a collector’s item. Nintendo often makes really cool things to celebrate its history, and this is no exception.
Game & Watch: Super Mario Bros. will release on Nov. 13 for $49.99. Will you be picking one up? It’s going to be a “limited production,” so make sure to get yours early!
