xenoblade chronicles: definitive edition preview xenoblade chronicles future connected

In Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition, the adventure continues with a new epilogue chapter in the form of Future Connected. Taking place one year after the main story’s ending, Future Connected sees Shulk and Melia explore uncharted territory on the Bionis’ Shoulder, an area that only appeared in select cutscenes in the original Wii game and could only be explored through hacking. The official Japanese website for Definitive Edition has since updated with more details on what can be found in the epilogue, complete with new screenshots!

With the world at peace and its various races working together, Melia invites Shulk to locate the High Entia’s lost Imperial Capital, Alcamoth. As they search from the Machina ship Junks, a surprise attack downs the flying vessel, leading it to crash-land on the Bionis’ Shoulder, where a strange mineral is causing various landmasses to float.

We’re off on the road to Alcamoth

On the Shoulder, the duo meet a pair of Nopon named Kino and Nene. While they are young, their battle prowess puts even full-grown adults to shame! The anxious Kino totes an ether rifle and strives to become a brave hero like his father. He is accompanied by Nene, who dotes on him like a mother, but her raw power betrays her cute appearance.

We recently reported that Future Connected will sport a different battle system from the base game. After the events of Xenoblade Chronicles, Shulk no longer holds the ability to see into the future, including visions that can turn the tide of battle. As a result, players will have to be more careful when facing off against powerful new monsters. Among these monsters are new “Fog Beasts,” whose dark auras can summon nearby monsters to attack Shulk’s party. To even the odds, befriend and complete requests for a Nopon squad of surveyors from across the Shoulder (Nopon Rangers, or “Nopongers”); they will assist Shulk in battle with signature skills and certain-kill combination attacks.

On top of all this, a familiar face makes her return in Xenoblade Chronicles: Future Connected, but whether she’ll be friend or foe remains to be seen…

Dang, those Nopon sure are cute though. Hopefully it won’t be long until we get these in English.
