new Umihara Kawase game for Switch, PlayStation 4

Ain’t no rest for the wicked, and fishes don’t grow on trees. The rope-swinging, side-scrolling action of Umihara Kawase continues thanks to the announcement of a new entry in the series being on the way.

Success Corporation, the company behind the cult-classic platformer series, put out a tweet detailing their plans for Tokyo Game Show 2019, the yearly Japanese video game showcase event. They shared info about the physical pamphlet they’re handing out at the event, specifically. While one side of the pamphlet features art from their latest release, Umihara Kawase Fresh!the other side is plastered with the announcement of a new title in the long-running franchise.

Besides the fact that it’s coming to PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch, we don’t know anything else about the new game just yet. We will, however, after the “Umihara Kawase Special Stage” at Tokyo Game Show 2019 on Sept. 12 at 15:00 JST, where they will also be displaying footage from the upcoming 2020 release of the Umihara Kawase Fresh! PlayStation 4 version.

For the uninitiated, the Umihara Kawase games are unique side-scrolling platformers where you control a budding Japanese sushi chef by the same name. She uses her handy grappling rope to cling to platforms above her and swing across pits and hazards in order to navigate levels and catch some yummy fish. We’ll see what new elements are in store for the series when more info is shared on the latest game during TGS.
