Right now, hundreds of thousands — if not millions — of people are trying to download Super Smash Bros. Ultimate version 3.0 and Joker. And unfortunately, many of these players are being met with an error message as the servers try and fail to deliver the update. In turn, the Nintendo eShop as a whole has begun to struggle to process requests, likely due to stress on the servers. Nintendo has now acknowledged the problem in a tweet.
We are aware that players are experiencing errors accessing Nintendo eShop and are working to address the problem. Thank you for your understanding and we hope to share an update when available.

However, it should be noted that Nintendo lists Super Smash Bros. Ultimate itself as undergoing server maintenance from Wednesday, April 17, 2019 5:50 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. PT. Despite this, some people such as our own Andrew Rockett have succeeded in downloading the update, but this may still affect players’ ability to play online for a while.
In all likelihood, the Nintendo eShop will be back to operating at 100 percent by the time we wake up tomorrow, so this is just a tiny inconvenience in the grand scheme of things. Joker is worth the wait!
