Nintendo 800 million consoles sold

Nintendo just released its investor report for the past quarter, including updated hardware numbers. Nintendo Switch had another solid quarter, selling 4.45 million units, and it also helped Nintendo achieve a lifetime milestone. With the latest update, Nintendo has now officially sold over 800 million consoles!

That figure includes both handhelds and home consoles. We previously reported that Nintendo handheld sales had passed 500 million, but that number is even more impressive when you add in the home consoles. It’s fitting then that Switch, which is both a handheld and a home console, has pushed Nintendo past 800 million consoles sold with its continued momentum. You can check out how those numbers all break down below!

Nintendo hits 800 million consoles sold

  • Nintendo Switch – 89.04 million
  • Nintendo 3DS – 75.94 million
  • Wii U – 13.56 million
  • Wii – 101.63 million
  • Nintendo DS – 154.02 million
  • Game Boy Advance – 81.51 million
  • Game Boy (Color) – 118.69 million
  • Nintendo GameCube – 21.74 million
  • Nintendo 64 – 32.93 million
  • Super Nintendo – 49.10 million
  • NES – 61.91 million

From NES to Switch, it all adds up to 800.7 million consoles sold over nearly 40 years. Nintendo has had an incredibly long and successful history of consoles. It’s hard to believe that just a few short years ago people were calling for them to go third-party due to Wii U’s struggles. Switch has revitalized Nintendo, and their sales are stronger than ever now. A billion consoles sold suddenly seems like a totally reasonable goal.
