The recently launched Nintendo Labo VR Kit for the Switch has garnered a healthy amount of positive reception so far from critics (including one of our own writers), but there is one glaring omission for the VR goggles: head straps. Thus, some creative fans with a bit of ingenuity have taken it upon themselves to add the straps on their own.
Redditer ‘Ddinenna’ posted a picture of their own head strap solution mounted onto the Labo VR goggles. According to them, the solution “works perfectly” though they have not yet provided a step-by-step guide as to how they went about creating it.
The reason as to why the Labo VR goggles officially do not have their own head straps, as pointed out by our Chris Hinton in his review of the kit, is that Nintendo wants people to experience VR in short bursts rather than full sessions that can last for hours on end. Thus, players can only experience it as long as they can keep their arms up After a few minutes of playing a game in the Labo VR software, a message will come up suggesting that the user takes a break—which is something Nintendo has had a habit of including in a number of their titles for the past few years.
Nevertheless, people want what they want and this is only one example of what will likely turn into a trend. Don’t be surprised if you see full DIY head strap tutorials for the Labo VR goggles popping up sooner rather than later.
