If you’re in the market for a new Switch, then trying to shop normally is likely not going to yield the best results. The flagship Switch is currently going through a bit of a drought in the US, as shipments of new stock have slowed down dramatically due to the COVID-19 outbreak. This has led to some gross price gouging by third-party sellers on sites like Amazon and eBay, with other retailers being totally sold out. Nintendo itself is also out of new units for the time being. But, there’s the next best thing—a refurb.

The Nintendo Online Store is offering refurbished flagship Switch units for $259.99. It’s not a massive discount over a brand-new unit, but at least you can expect the condition to be really good considering that it’s a professionally cleaned and tested unit. It appears that these refurbs consist of the original model of the Switch, however.

For those out of the loop, Nintendo released a soft upgrade to the flagship Switch back in 2019. This upgraded model features improved battery life. Thus, the original model isn’t as prized anymore. Nevertheless, if handheld play isn’t a huge deal to you then this may not even matter.

Considering that so many retailers across the USA have a Switch drought, you may want to act quickly on one of these refurbs if you’re serious.

The Switch Lite is slightly easier to find for its MSRP of $199, but there’s no telling how long before that also ends up in short supply.
