Nintendo of America’s website just became a little more streamlined as it cut quite a bit of content from its servers. As of today, all of the pages that contained information on Wii and DS, along with their digital game services (WiiWare and DSiWare) have been removed from the official website. In addition to this, the official Wii U landing page has also been removed; visiting it now results in an error message.

What remains in the aftermath of this purge is Wii U games still being listed on the official Nintendo Game Store page. This list will likely stick around until eShop servers for the Wii U are deactivated; the jury is still out as to when that will occur.

Gone, but not forgotten

A reason for this (seemingly sudden) removal has not been given, but it’s most likely just a matter of Nintendo clearing out sections of its website that it no longer deemed necessary. Websites aren’t free to run and maintain, so trimming the fat from time to time is often necessary.

Mentions of the Wii, Wii U and DS aren’t entirely gone, however. If you still have customer support-related questions, there are still the official assistance articles that cover all of these now delisted systems. These pages in particular will likely stick around forever, as similar pages still exist for all of Nintendo’s retro systems dating as far back as the NES and Game Boy. Even the Virtual Boy of all things still has a support page.

    1. All I know is…..Nintendo screwed up hugely when it abandoned the Wii gaming platform. It’s the ONLY video game system my family STILL uses. A lot, in fact. Multiple times every week. Mario Kart online is our favorite distraction from the stress of daily life and it got us through the deaths of two pets. In between bouts of crying, we raced around and forgot for a few moments how broken our hearts were. Nintendo sucks for not creating new Wii games for the old Wii -OR- the Wii U. If you won’t do it, get the F out of the way and let other developers get creative! We love the fact we can bowl together, box together, race together, etc. And DON’T YOU DARE stop supporting online racing or Call of Duty. DON’T. YOU. DARE.

    2. Good lord, the Wii, DS, and Wii U were all commercial failures? Must be if they’re removing all traces of them- that’s fanboy logic anyway.

    3. “Nintendo removes all traces of Wii, DS and Wii U”, “What remains in the aftermath of this purge is Wii U games still being listed…” perhaps you need an English lesson as to what constitutes “all traces”, because if Wii U games are listed, then traces to the Wii U are not removed.
