Donkey Kong Country Returns Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Layer

Welcome back to another edition of Nintendo Showdown! This is a weekly series at Nintendo Enthusiast, and it requires some audience participation. Every week we’ll compare two (or more) Nintendo games and pit them against each other in a poll. Your votes decide the winner, so choose wisely. In the coming weeks, we’ll be matching up Nintendo favorites with indie games that drew inspiration from them. Does the original keep the crown, or did a newcomer do it better?

This week, we’re looking at a pair of colorful 2D platformers! Nintendo blew players away with the Donkey Kong Country series on the SNES. Years later, we have both official and unofficial successors! Donkey Kong Country Returns on Wii was a glorious return indeed thanks to Retro Studios. Playtonic, a team that includes many former Donkey Kong Country developers, recently tapped into that same magic with Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair. Which 2D platformer gets it just right? Help us decide by casting your vote below!
