Nintendo Switch family

Media Create has released the latest edition of its weekly sales charts. And, like how it’s been for the majority of the year, the Nintendo Switch has taken the top spot for hardware sales. PS4 is beginning to plateau, as is 3DS, and the Xbox One doesn’t really have much of a presence in Japan. Thus, it’s no wonder why Nintendo’s hybrid system has been mostly left uncontested on its home soil.

Here’s the rundown of sales numbers (previous week in brackets “[]”:

  • Nintendo Switch – 37,855 [42,148]
  • PS4 + PS4 Pro – 20,639 [22,033]
  • New Nintendo 2DS XL + 2DS – 3,980  [6,122]
  • PS Vita – 2,115 [2,247]
  • New 3DS XL – 1,669 [2,231)
  • Xbox One X + Xbox One – 198 [231]

In other sales related news, Nintendo recently held its financial briefing on October 30, 2018. Various aspects of its business were discussed. One standout was that the number of global Switch hardware sales have been updated to now stand at 22.86 million, as of September 30, 2018. Nintendo still intends to hit its goal of 20 million units sold during this fiscal year; it has 15 million more units to go for that to happen. 3DS sales also got a bump, albeit a small one. They now stand at 73.53 million units. As evidenced by its performance on the Media Create charts, the 3DS family is generating far less activity than ever before. Yet, Nintendo will continue to support it moving forward.
