At the September 2021 Nintendo Direct, Nintendo revealed that Nintendo 64 and Sega Genesis games are coming to Nintendo Switch Online (NSO) via the brand new Expansion Pack, a new pricing tier for NSO that will launch later in October. At launch, the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack will include the Nintendo 64 titles Super Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, Star Fox 64, Yoshi’s Story, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, WinBack, Mario Tennis, Dr. Mario 64, and Sin and Punishment, and from Sega Genesis, it will feature Castlevania: Bloodlines, Contra: Hard Corps, Ecco the Dolphin, Golden Axe, Gunstar Heroes, Shining Force, Phantasy Star IV, and more games you can see below.
Nintendo has already revealed that, in the future, more games like The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask, Pokémon Snap, F-Zero X, Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards, Paper Mario, and Banjo-Kazooie will become available on the service. Nintendo has not yet revealed how much more the Expansion Pack pricing tier will cost for Nintendo Switch Online to add Nintendo 64 and Sega Genesis games, but hopefully it will be a reasonable cost. Meanwhile, the NSO Nintendo 64 and Sega Genesis controllers will retail for $49.99 each, which sure sounds pricey to me, but some people will be all over those classic controllers that are now wireless for Switch play. Curiously, there is no word on Game Boy games coming to Switch Online.
