Nintendo Switch Online Game Boy

Multiple connected sources have recently indicated that Nintendo apparently has plans in place to expand the Nintendo Switch Online retro catalog with Game Boy and Game Boy Color games in the near future. The latest crop of whispers began on the “Nate the Hate” podcast, where known insider ‘NateDrake’ mentioned their belief that Nintendo may add Game Boy and Game Boy Color titles within the next few weeks.

In a report that went live earlier tonight, Nintendo Life indicated that their own sources believe that Game Boy and Game Boy Color games will be launching on Nintendo Switch Online “really soon.”

Nintendo Life went on to mention that its insider is pessimistic about the chances of Game Boy Advance games arriving on the service any time soon, because several companies currently have re-releases or remakes of Game Boy Advance classics in the works (most notably, we’re all looking forward to some more Advance Wars in the near future). If correct, that would be unfortunate, but also all too believable, given that Nintendo is apparently committed to keeping this service as weak a replacement for Virtual Console as possible for as long as they can.

Would you be excited to try out some Game Boy and Game Boy Color games on Nintendo Switch Online? Which would you be most excited to play? Are you disappointed that, as we approach the third anniversary of the service, our choices for retro content are still so lackluster compared even to past Nintendo consoles? Let us know what you think in the comment section below.
