Nintendo Switch Online

The latest crop of Nintendo Switch Online games is now available, featuring SNES titles Joe & MacMagical Drop2Super Baseball Simulator 1,000, and Spanky’s Quest, and NES title Ninja Jajamaru-kun. (Japan, meanwhile, is getting some different stuff, including Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War). If you grab your Switch, you should see that the Super Nintendo app has its version 2.3.0 update ready to roll, while the NES app hits Version 5.3.0. With five new games in total, the online service now holds 104 games – though many of those games are particularly, er, underwhelming.

Fans were fairly disappointed following the reveal of the new Nintendo Switch Online games last week. The rather lame crop of games is another reminder of how the Switch’s online service pales in comparison to older offerings like the Virtual Console. In my view, Nintendo needs to reshuffle its approach to its own retro content. Platforms like the Game Boy, Game Boy Advance, Nintendo 64, and GameCube all have excellent games for a Virtual Console-style service that would fit right at home on the Switch. Nintendo has moved on from that, unfortunately, so get to enjoying Super Baseball Simulator 1,000, why don’t you?

Will you be playing any of the latest Nintendo Switch Online games? Why or why not? Which are you most excited to try out? Let us know in the comments below.
