Nintendo just released its latest earnings report, highlighting sales data from October 1 – December 31, 2019. This period is the third quarter of the company’s fiscal year, which ends on March 31st, 2020. As expected, the report included an update on the life-to-date sale of the Nintendo Switch family of consoles. There’s cause for celebration, as the popular device just hit a major milestone: over 50 million units sold worldwide! The recently-launched Switch Lite accounts for just over 5 million of those sales.
Nintendo Switch sales hit 50 million
Between the standard model and the Switch Lite, Nintendo had a phenomenal holiday season. Nintendo’s previous quarterly report put Switch sales at 41.67, but today they stand at 52.48 million. That means Nintendo moved nearly 11 million consoles in three months! Switch Lite, as of December 31, has already sold 5.19 million units. The cheaper, portable-only console accounted has given Nintendo fresh new life!
Switch Lite provides a boost
This brings the total Nintendo Switch sales for this fiscal year (beginning April 1, 2019) to 17.74 million. That’s a very strong number through nine months, putting it about 3 million ahead of Nintendo’s sales last fiscal year. Switch Lite is likely to thank for that increase, as its strong start has propelled Switch to new heights. Nintendo is forecasting a total of 19.5 million sales by the end of the fiscal year, but that may be a conservative estimate at this point.
