Nintendo new IP

Nintendo is recognized for its variety of iconic franchises, including the likes of Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda, Metroid, Animal Crossing, and much more. However, as reported by VGC, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa was interviewed by Japanese news site Nikkei, and he explained that Nintendo is aiming to create new IP in the future alongside its well-established franchises.

During the interview, Furukawa stated how the company is interested in making more original game franchises: “I myself am looking at and studying various forms of entertainment. In the future, we will focus on creating new game series as well as long-sellers such as Mario and Zelda.” Nintendo has experimented with creating new IP over the past few years, with Splatoon releasing in 2015 and Arms in 2017. Normally, the company likes to rely on its flagship titles, so it will be interesting to see what it has planned for the future.

Furukawa also reiterates later on in the interview that Nintendo is constantly thinking about new hardware: “We are constantly building up ideas for the new consoles the market is expecting, but there are some things we can’t do now due to technology and cost constraints.” Rumors about a Nintendo Switch Pro have been circulating for quite some time, so it will be interesting to see whether or not a new Switch model launches in the near future. What would you like to see from Nintendo, and what genre of game would you want them to make?
