Nintendo Treehouse Live July 2020 July 9 new WayForward game Paper Mario: The Origami King gameplay new franchise

Well, it’s not a Nintendo Direct, but it’s a start! Nintendo has announced a Nintendo Treehouse Live July 2020 event occurring tomorrow, July 10, at 10 a.m. PT / 1 p.m. ET at the official website. This event will showcase Paper Mario: The Origami King gameplay and reveal “gameplay for a title in a franchise new to developer WayForward!” That is some very curious phrasing.

Whose franchise is it? Is it a Nintendo franchise? WayForward is known for its beautiful hand-drawn Shantae titles, so could it be cooking up something like a new Wario Land? Some other classic Nintendo franchise? Maybe we’ll see that rumored 2D Metroid at Nintendo Treehouse Live? (Update: Nope! See bottom.)

Then again, it could also be any other franchise under the sun that WayForward has gotten its hands on. We’ll find out one way or the other in less than 24 hours at Nintendo Treehouse Live July 2020.

In the meantime, rumors and speculation persist about when the next full Nintendo Direct will occur. A fresh rumor claims a Direct will occur this month, whereas an earlier report stated we could be waiting as long as till September. Again — time will tell. And then we’ll know how much our wallets will be hurting come fall and the holidays.

What are you hoping will be announced at Nintendo Treehouse Live July 2020 tomorrow?

Update: The WayForward game comes from a third-party franchise.
