The Internet continues to buzz with rumors surrounding the (supposedly soon-to-be-revealed) “Switch Pro”. While some folks are gearing up to get their hands on some new toys, one Nintendo fan has been busy tinkering away with what is now a treasure from the past: the Wii U.
Nintendo’s least appreciated console gets a lot of judgment, but it does have some loyal fans. And one such fan goes by the Reddit username of “Orlandots”. The Redditor shared some pictures of their Wii U project which he refers to as a “beautiful monster”. For all intents and purposes, this is a Wii U Pro.
And by the looks of just the exterior, a bit of a monster this machine is for real:
“Orlandots” went all the way out with upgrades to their black 32GB Wii U. Originally considered to be the “premium” model, these upgrades essentially make it the deluxe edition! The Redditor has managed to very elegantly place four functional Gamecube controller ports at the front of the console. On the inside, its paltry 32GB of flash memory can now, to a very loose extent, sit in the same class as the next-gen consoles, because “Orlandots” threw an SSD into the machine.
Considering that this talented fan not only managed to pull this Wii U Pro off but did so all while keeping the exterior of the console looking as clean as ever is quite the feat. If he ever does sell this off in the future, I wouldn’t be surprised if it ends up going for an extremely high value, even if it just ends up being put on display.
This is now one more addition to the already impressive collection of console mods that have popped up over the years. Other zany projects include a Wii being crammed into a GameBoyAdvance SP, and on the flip side, a Game Boy getting super-sized and being capable of playing NES games. Such projects show just how talented some members of the fan community are, even matching the expertise of some of the engineers in the very companies that they’re fans of. Considering all the time and patience that it takes to pull off such feats, it’s always cool to see what great (yet still crazy) new idea that another talented fan will come up with.
