Nippon Ichi Software (NIS) has announced a new strategy RPG at TGS 2021 called Shikabanegurai no Bouken Meshi for the Switch and PS4. The title means something along the lines of “The Corpse-eater’s Adventure Food.” The title itself doesn’t make sense in Japanese, so we can expect it to be one of those wackier NIS titles.
The developers describe the game as a “survival strategy RPG in which you try to survive through dungeons.” It features character designs by illustrator Takehito Harada, best known for his work on the Disgaea series. He also worked on other NIS games like The Witch and the Hundred Knight, Labyrinth of Refrain, and Exile Election.
In Shikabanegurai no Bouken Meshi, you take a party of four rookie adventurers into the depths of a labyrinth said to contain a sealed malevolent god. You’ll give orders while gathering food and materials, then cooking while trying to find a way back to the surface. The main keywords for the game are “character creation,” “dungeon survival,” and “strategy RPG.”
The Key to Dungeon Exploration – Eating at Camp (Adventure Food)
Battles feature grid-based maps, where you control the four-party members and defeat enemies on the field. Attack and movement consume calories and water, so there are some survival elements that you’ll need to keep an eye on. Rationing your food and knowing when to use them is the key to survival.
Food is a big part of the concept of Shikabanegurai no Bouken Meshi. Characters grow by eating various “Adventure Food.” That means they’ll have to eat just about anything that monsters drop to survive. It will be important to know when, where, and who should be eating what. You’ll have many choices with food. For example, you can defeat monsters and eat their remains to make characters stronger. You can also cook up poisonous food used to weaken monsters.
Character Create Adventurers
Shikabanegurai no Bouken Meshi boasts having the most robust character creation system in NIS history. Character creation options include the name, gender, class, face, hairstyle (front and back), accessories, and height. It will also have plenty of color options to make your own unique characters.
