The September NPD (gaming sales charts for the USA) report has officially been released, and some interesting details have been revealed.

Which system do you think sold the best in September? The Switch? What about the PS4? If you guessed any of the ‘big three’ systems, you’d be incorrect. In actuality, the best-selling system of the month of September was the Super Nintendo Classic Edition.

While the NPD report did not specify exactly how many units were sold, it was mentioned that the Super NES Classic was the “overall top unit selling hardware platform in the period.” Considering the massive amount of hype behind the miniature retro revival, in addition to its incredibly cheap price of $80, it’s not exactly a big surprise that it managed to outsell the traditional systems.

In case you’re wondering, the Switch took the second position, behind the SNES Classic. As reported already, the Switch outsold the PS4 and Xbox One in September.
