Octopath Traveler

Octopath Traveler proved a huge success for both Square Enix and Nintendo when it released on Switch earlier this year. With the game selling over 1 million units in its first two weeks on sale, it looks like the series will continue.

At least, that is what fans can expect if Square Enix’s Tomoya Asano’s comments in a recent Famitsu article are any sign. The producer responsible for both Octopath and the Bravely series had the following to say:

And as for a sequel, we still cannot say anything concrete yet, but we’ve just started talks on how it ought to be.

Although a sequel seemed almost certain due to the original’s success, it is great to get some form of confirmation so soon after the first game’s release. What’s more is that the team at Acquire will likely be focused on a sequel in the near future, which can be gleaned from Asano once again stating no DLC will be released for the title. This can be seen in the following comment:

Regarding paid DLCs, we had decided from the beginning not to create them, so there are no plans right now.

There was no comment from Asano about what other titles could be designed utilising a similar style to Octopath Traveler, though naturally, Final Fantasy VI comes to mind as an ideal game. However, until the moment we are given the announcement of such a remake, we can but dream.
