Octopath Traveler sales 2.5 million Square Enix Acquire RPG

The Square Enix and Acquire-developed title Octopath Traveler has reached a new sales milestone. Since its launch in July 2018, the RPG has moved 2.5 million copies in units shipped plus digital sales. The last time we heard about Octopath Traveler sales, it was 2 million back in March 2020. That means it has sold close to 500,000 copies in a little less than a year.

Octopath Traveler was one of the earlier Switch games that grabbed the attention of many JRPG fans with its innovative HD-2D art style. Its unique aesthetic came from a combination of SNES-style graphics and high-definition modernized effects. The game also features eight main characters with their own stories and gameplay elements.

After about a year as a Switch-exclusive title, a PC version of the game launched on Steam in June 2019. A prequel called Octopath Traveler: Conquerors of the Continent was also released for smartphones in Japan last year. Square Enix has yet to announce the title outside of Japan.

Here’s the announcement from the official Octopath Traveler Twitter with a look at artwork commemorating the 2.5 million in units shipped and digital sales:

Octopath Traveler is immediately available for the Nintendo Switch, PC via Steam, and Google Stadia. In related news, Bravely Default II releases tomorrow, and we enjoyed it quite a bit.
