Othercide is a dark, occult-themed tactical RPG that launched back in September on Switch. It delivered a unique-looking presentation too, with its muted black, white, and red color palette. In the months since, developer Lightbulb Crew has deployed a number of updates, including last month’s Dream Mode addition. Now, a new content update has been announced for Othercide, including Penance mode.
The changes go live for the PC version today, followed by an update to the console versions next month. The new mission type, Penance, requires a more precise touch to successfully complete. Swarms of enemies attack as per usual, but rather than endless slaying, each character must destroy a certain amount of enemies to fill their Penance Gauge. This keeps your characters together as a group for a swift victory.
However, if each character kills too many enemies, they’ll be split apart from the group. That action will make it tougher to escape, so it sounds like it’ll be worth keeping an eye on your slaying speed in this one. To add some more variety, freshly reworked maps will also arrive in next month’s Othercide update. These will have an effect throughout the campaign mode.
Specific launch details for the Switch update are TBA, but the Penance mode and other updates are probably likely to come to Othercide in December.
