Override 2: Super Mech League is a game about giant robots brawling it out for supremacy, and it is headed to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC on Dec. 22. It comes from publisher Modus Games and in-house development team Modus Studios Brazil, and today it revealed an epic Ultraman cross-over that will bring four characters from the series to this game. Curiously, it is being marketed as an entirely separate game version — Override 2: Super Mech League – Ultraman Deluxe Edition — but it appears to be the only version of the game being sold physically, so it seems needlessly confusing.
In any case, over the course of the included season pass, Ultraman, Bemular, Black King, and Dan Moroboshi will join the robot rumble. Beyond that, the base Override 2: Super Mech League game will include 20 robots with unique abilities, as well as various arenas featuring environmental elements like geysers, lava pools, and, uh, platforms. In addition to a Career Mode where you fight to become the best, there are 1v1, 2v2, free for all, and king of the hill modes, among others. The game supports upward of four players locally and online, so if you have a friend who’s also a mech lover, you’ll be good to go.
Ultraman has been a staple of Japanese culture since the 1960s, and it’s always cool to see the franchise get a bit more exposure in the West. I’m honestly not well versed in the series, but I am enjoying the new Marvel comic for the franchise. Let us know what you think of Modus Studios Brazil’s Override 2: Super Mech League and the inclusion of a beloved tokusatsu franchise.
