Paper Mario: The Origami King is enjoying some of the warmest reception for the series in several entries. Sure, plenty of people are still pretty disappointed at the lack of overt RPG elements, but many more seem hooked on the game’s stylish presentation and fantastically humorous writing. Such an impressively artistic design is sure to inspire some of Nintendo’s more creative fans – that’s exactly what happened with Instagram user fro_yla, a talented artist who used his graffiti skills to paint a tribute to the game’s very own King Olly. Give it a look below.

We hit up the Manette Free Wall today with this wonderful weather. @nocto_yla painted The Lich and I painted King Olly from the new Paper Mario game. #thelich #papermario #kingolly #flameblue #belton #spraypaint #characters #nintendo #nintedoswitch #papermariotheorigamiking #green #purple #yellow #adventuretime #cartoonnetwork
Fro_yla’s rendition of King Olly is quite impressive. The paper aesthetic utilized by Paper Mario certainly does transcend across mediums – here, even paint on concrete almost perfectly resembles a folded-up piece of paper.
Have you played Paper Mario: The Origami King? What do you think? Considering some of the restrictions that the developers behind the game had to work with – such as a ban on modifying classic characters – I’m quite impressed with what Nintendo managed to put together here. I haven’t been able to pick the game up quite yet, but the series’ latest entry looks like so much pure fun that even this Thousand-Year Door purist is weighing taking the plunge.
