Yesterday, we received word the first Partner Showcase would air today. Based on the information given out, we had ideas on what would be shown. As it turned out, some titles in the Shin Megami Tensei series were announced for Switch, as well as DLC for Cadence of Hyrule. Apparently, this wasn’t enough for some gamers. A large number of dislikes accompanied the official YouTube videos that reported the news.
The Partner Showcase delivered, whether you liked the announcements or not
Let’s take a look at some breakdowns:
Two hours after the Direct aired, the Nintendo of America stream received 47,000 dislikes and 53,000 likes. The UK branch got 3,100 dislikes and 2,600 likes. Over in Japan, the clip obtained 11,000 likes and 1,900 dislikes.
Now, am I sad about the Direct? Yes. It wasn’t what I wanted or what I was expecting.
However, keep in mind this is the message that hit Twitter before the broadcast today:
On 7/20 we'll debut the first #NintendoDirect Mini: Partner Showcase, a series focused on titles from our development & publishing partners. We'll share a few updates on a small group of previously-announced #NintendoSwitch games. Check out the full video release at 7am PT. pic.twitter.com/GbEbxVL6fD

Everything stated above happened during the stream. Nintendo didn’t lie about what was going to air.
While I am sure some of those dislikes are from players who were genuinely disappointed in the reveals, I guarantee a lot of them were from gamers who wanted to hear about the rumored Mario Collection or Metroid Prime 4. This just goes to show more fans need to read statements in full and keep their expectations grounded. At least we acquired some information on future games instead of nothing at all.
