Peaky Blinders: Mastermind arrives on Nintendo Switch tomorrow, bringing a video game adaptation of the popular British TV show. Developer FuturLab worked in close collaboration with the show’s creators in an attempt to bring added authenticity. Publisher Curve Digital has now released a behind-the-scenes video on how the game came to be. The clip shows why Mastermind stays true to what the show has to offer.
The first thing that’s immediately noticeable is the visual style. The game and the show share the same dark, gritty look as the Peaky Blinders traverse areas of Birmingham, England. Mastermind Game Director James Marsden said that whilst the slick visual style was important, it was lead character Tommy Shelby that was a big inspiration behind Peaky Blinders: Mastermind. Shelby is always one step ahead of his enemies in the show, a trait that FuturLab turned into a game concept.
“Our team has created a game that reflects the heart of what makes the show compelling: Tommy Shelby’s ability to manipulate friends, family and foes in the pursuit of his master plan,” said Marsden in a press release. The show’s creators find it fitting that the show has spread to a video game format. The Shelby family is all about spreading the word and making their name known. The show followed suit, becoming a worldwide success. Now, a video game adaptation adds to series’s influence.
Peaky Blinders: Mastermind launches Aug. 20 on Switch.
