People are buying the wrong Pokémon Sword and Shield Expansion Pass

The Isle of Armor launches tomorrow, but unfortunately some people are already buying the wrong Pokémon Sword and Shield Expansion pass. By purchasing the Expansion Pass early you get access to some preorder bonuses, but if you purchase the wrong one you get nothing, unless you happen to own both versions of the game.

Nintendo is aware of the situation and has tweeted about it from the official Japanese Nintendo Support account. According to translations, the tweet explains that the company has received inquiries from consumers purchasing the wrong Pokémon Sword and Shield Expansion Pass. It reiterates how the Expansion Passes for each game are separate, and the correct one can be accessed if you go to the eShop directly from the game you own.

When the Expansion Passes were first announced, Nintendo warned players that there would be a separate pass for Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield. Consumers were also warned against buying bundles of the base game with the Expansion Pass, unless they wanted to buy the version they didn’t already own.

Nintendo reportedly may not be refunding players who have purchased the wrong pass, which would fall in line with how the company usually operates.

In related Pokémon Sword and Shield news, we recently learned you only need to reach the Wild Area, about two hours into the game, before you can begin to play The Isle of Armor, and trainers’ Pokémon levels will scale with yours there.

Let us know if you or someone you know has been confused by how to purchase the right pass.
